"Old
San Juan Night Tales Tour"-
We were in port at 4:30p.m on Carnival and knew we didn't have a lot of time to do much . We had read about the OSJ night tales legends tour which is from 6 p.m. til 8 p.m. We booked this after reading about it on the website and other reviews. It is a walking tour. We had an 8 & 10 yr. old with us and Debbie (the tour guide) was the greatest. She gave us not only some wonderful history of OSJ but enough suspense stories for the kids to want to hear more. She took us to places that had to be unlocked for us to see inside and learn the history and see the beauty within. If you want something different than the same old tour stuff Night Tales is the tour for you. You get back to the town square at 8, plenty of time to grab a bite to eat if you want, but we took the kids back to the ship. |

December 23, 2005. We did this tour with Debbie before our 12/11 cruise on AOS. It was wonderful. Debbie is a great storyteller and her enthusiasm and love of the city are very evident as the evening unfolds. I highly recommend this tour! "I need your advice on San Juan!" - Ports of Call - San Juan, PR - Date posted: December 23, 2005. I have to agree with TravelAway. We also did the Night Tales of Old San Juan with Debbie and it was fantastic. She is a great storyteller. You will come away from this tour with a vivid image of the history of this beautiful city. Afterwards we had a fabulous dinner of paella and tapas at Divino Bocadito on Calle Cruz. There was even a flamenco show (no cover charge). Debbie was kind enough to escort us to the restaurant - she even went inside to get us a table. I highly recommend her tour. You won't regret it. Her website is called Legends of Puerto Rico. survey: Debbie was a joy! She met us early at the hotel and we
ended up with a private two-person tour. She was well informed and had
local connections that allowed us to see things other guides can't show
you. She was honorable - diligently adhering to the truth and noting
anything that was "legend". Debbie was incredibly sweet and constantly
offered to take pictures of my fiancé and I. Her pda/cell phone was well
used - including old pictures and music to accentuate appropriate parts
of the tour. My favorite part was the well-planned route, especially the
frog path. My fiancé's favorite part was viewing the underground crypt.
Overall, an A+ tour! Christopher and Katie Milton, FL - Carnival

survey: Debbie is an amazing tour guide and a wonderful story
teller. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour of beautiful Old San Juan. When
we expressed interest in going to a particular restaurant with flamenco
show after the tour, not only did she escort us there, she went above
and beyond by going inside to secure us a table. We have already
recommended this tour to many people that we met on our cruise ship.
This tour was beyond our expectations. Thank you for making our stay in
Old San Juan such a memorable one! Eric and Pam Olayos, FL,

Sept 13, 2005 SHOWCAT-My DH and I just took it August 29th. We HIGHLY recommend it. Debbie was our guide and she was so sweet, insightful and got us into so many areas that a bus tour would never/couldn't take you. She could not have timed it more perfectly, at one point during the tour, we were over looking the water RIGHT at sunset. You will be able to learn so much history, while taking some GREAT photos. And she was great, that she would take the photos (she has a back ground in photography) of my husband and myself TOGETHER. We were in Old San Juan from 2-10 ish. so after we walked to El Morro Castle ourselves in the afternoon, we were able to see this beautiful city at night. And she seems to know everyone, so I felt very safe. We are planning on going back next year with my parents and we are going to take her tour again. Enjoy! by Jo-Ann Howard on TripAdvisor "Our Streetscapes walking tour past August 9, 2005 with Legends of San Juan was a great look of San Juan. We especially enjoyed our stops of harbor cruise, university, monorail and open air market. Our tour guide was also the owner who is very cordial, informative and personable. This was a wonderful opportunity to see PR off the beaten paths at times. Wear a hat because it was hot hot hot. There is a wonderful, newly opened, air conditioned restaurant/brewery close to the last stop. The sampler is great while cooling off and catching your breath. Thanks again Debbie! Highly recommended." |

August 8, 2005 We took a night walking tour last Monday (August 1, 2005) with Legends of Puerto Rico and I would highly recommend it! We had a party of twelve and 6 of those were ages 4-7. This was a great choice for a more fun tour. Debbie tells some great stories and there is no way we could have put something better together ourselves. This got the "favorite thing vote" about the cruise from one of the kids. She was able to get us into buildings not open to the public. The kids were just entranced with the stories and the tour is planned so every time we turned a corner there was a beautiful view. It was a two hour tour with sitting stops while she told stories. If I can answer any questions, I will. If you are in San Juan for only a late afternoon, evening stop this is a really wonderful tour. My wife and I took the "Legends of San Juan," and the next evening the "Night Tales of Old San Juan" tours. We enjoyed both of them immensely. Debbie's knowledge, energy, enthusiasm, and pride in her heritage made these tours among the best we have ever experienced. Debbie is very personable and a joy to be with and we would strongly encourage anyone interested to take these tours. The "Legends" tour was very interesting and informational and the "Night Tales" tour, also informative, had a wonderful atmosphere that will leave us with lasting memories of Old San Juan.

Survey - Debbie was an awesome, energetic tour guide with lots of
information about Puerto Rico and San Juan. The drivers of the buses
were also very professional and they were extra nice to everyone. They
even made a grocery store stop on the way back to Palmas Del Mar at
the request of the passengers. They were patient with the tardiness of
some of the passengers. Debbie did an excellent job organizing the
transportation and the tour that appealed to our group. We did however
need more time to tour the El Morro Fort. "Hicks and

Survey - We had a lovely time and enjoyed the beauty of San Juan. Debbie was very knowledgeable about San Juan and took us to places and architecture sites we would not have otherwise gone to on our own. She was cordial and willingly took photos of us at our request. The stories were very intriguing and interesting. We had a 7 year old with us who was a bit "lost" with the details of the wonderful tales, but Debbie did her best to keep him entertained. Thanks.

to much "data and dates". OSJ is such a romantic place, I would suggest a lighter fare as opposed to so many "this is what happened on this date".

We were in San Juan last Jan and did a walking tour of the city with Debbie Ramos-She has a great tour and a very nice lady who has a couple of great walking tours of the city. You can go to her site www.legendsofpr.com and get her info. She took us to places that were very interesting and where many people don't get a chance to see. We stopped for a drink, and was very informal and friendly tour. Debbie spoke to everyone as we walked around. She is a local lady with lots of good stories. Hope this helps. If you need more info just holler. Take care, Knarf (Frank backwards)

Me, my wife, and my 3 year old boy took a Legend night tale
walking tour. The tour guide Debbie knows a lot about Old San Juan. We
met the tour at a Art Deco building which is about 10 to 15 minute
walk from the pier. When we were at San Juan (4/25) it was a hot and
very humid day. We ended up sitting at the yellow tourist office
building over half an hour because they have ac. They also serve
complimentary rum punch. Debbie knows a lot about the history of Old
San Juan. She uses story telling on different places ... etc. She also
brings you to a couple of places that were closed and still let you
get in. I am surprised my 3 year old boy can keep up for almost 2
hours on that tour. I highly recommend this walking tour. I think you
can find more details on this tour from other thread. Gary, April 25, 2005, Night

You had asked me how this tour would be for younger children....Magan liked it. She is usually vocal if she has had enough and not interested, but her only complaint was that she was wet. Comments: I highly recommend the Night Tales Tour given by Debbie Molina-Ramos. We enjoyed Debbie's tour immensely. We were entertained and given wonderful information. I felt that Debbie gave us a special opportunity -- actually, more like a gift -- a couple of precious hours to feel some of the heart and soul of Old San Juan.
The Night Tales in Old San Juan Tour, given by Debbie, was a major highlight of our entire cruise and vacation. (Please feel free to quote me.)

lot about the modern San Juan and I liked the boat, subway and bus
rides. I really felt that I got the feel of San Juan for the first
time ( I have been to San Juan on 4 other occasions). Debbie was
terrific, well informed and very personable. She made the tour. I will
highly recommend this tour to my friends that visit Puerto Rico. I
probably will take it again next year when I visit again. Herbert

- I have been to Old San Juan on several other trips but taking this tour really was
terrific. I learned a lot about the history, monuments and all the very special building that we were allowed in. The tour was just great. Debbie was professional, very
knowledgeable, personable and enthusiastic. She made the tour! Debbie really went out of her way to show us her town. She took great pictures and even took the time to show us where to catch the B 21 bus. I will recommend this tour to my friends that plan to visit Puerto Rico and will likely take it again next year to see what has been added.

Survey Comments: Take this tour! Debbie is an intelligent and a wonderful guide to the heart of Old San Juan. It is wonderful for many reasons. First, it is fun and you will experience more than just a “This is the…Now we will go to…” You will get an insight about a place, a people and a culture. You may go into a crypt and you may hear a beautiful song and you may get into some places that tours are normally not allowed. You might go into a little grocery store and find out what “those” foods are. You will say to yourself, “This was great because she was able to give us the unexpected.”

We really enjoyed ourselves! Debbie even took us to a dinner spot for locals and the meal was one of the top highlights of our whole trip. She went out of her way to point out the great photo spots and took pictures of us. We were quite proud of telling everyone else on the ship about our experience and we were able to see things that others did not see on their tours. I think our experience in San
Juan was much fulfilling than those that took the ship's tour and it definitely has made me want to return to San Juan for more! I will definitely be posting a review on Cruisecritic.com and Cruisemates.com telling everyone about the tour! Thanks Debbie!

For anyone wondering what
to do in S J for the evening...without a doubt, you have to take the
Night Tales tour with Debbie. She is beyond awesome. In regards to being
in your 30's and finding it interesting...YES! I'm 35 and loved it. We
were actually 15 minutes late for the tour due to arriving at the port
late. The tourism office contacted her while she was already guiding a
tour and she arranged a meeting place for us! The information was
spectacular, the places she showed us were spectacular. We wouldn't have
seen what we saw if it hadn't been for this tour. She told stories with
such passion and always was sure to not only point out the great photo
ops, but also to take pictures of us as well. I could have toured all
night! Additionally, we wanted to eat somewhere where the locals would
eat. We don't like tourist type places and always want to experience the
local food. She took us to Mojito's which was also spectacular! We let
our waiter pick our dishes for us and he did a fantastic job! And if you
like drinking Mojitos...the best can be found here. |

Our group was from Baldwin-Wallace College in
Berea, Ohio attending an emersion class on diversity and culture in Puerto Rico. Each of us had a specific topic of concentration. It was after the tour, that the overall project was clearly connected and each could see how the topics are interwoven. It made filming much easier and of more interest to each of those who had participated in your tour. It was such a big hit with our group that this tour is being considered for next year's requirements of activities.

Additional letter: Dear Debbie, Thanks for sending us the picture from our tour on Jan.4th. We filled our dinner companions in on the stories that you had told us and they enjoyed them very much. Although we were only in San Juan a short time, going on the tour with you made us feel that we were there longer than we were. The rest of the cruise went by far too fast and we are back shoveling far too much "white sand" but that is when I start planning the next Caribbean vacation so it's not so bad really. Thanks again for the fun and informative tour. |
