Train

The new train in Puerto Rico was inaugurated past September 2004 and is known as “Tren Urbano” (TU).

Facts:


  1. The route is 17.2 km long

  2. It has 16 stops.

  3. It runs through San Juan (Hato Rey and Rio Piedras), Guaynabo and Bayamón municipalities.

  4. Total travel time is 30 minutes with 5 minutes of intervals during rush hours and 12 minutes on none rush  hours.

  5. The maximum velocity is 55 MPH.

  6. It runs on electrical rails.

  7. The system has 64 vehicles.

  8. Each vehicle seats 22 passengers with a total capacity of 182.

  9. The stations and vehicles are handicap accessible.

  10. Parking available at 5 stations until 1:00 a.m.

  12. Trails and stops will be added toward Old San Juan and Carolina.

  13. The trains schedule will be from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. 7 days a week.

The new train only runs everyday with from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The goal is to implement the AMA and minibuses - “Públicos” as an integrated system known as ATI in September 2005.  The Metropolitan Bus Authority began the new routes that connects with the train stops on May 23, 2005. Electronic cards are required to pay the fare.  The one way rate is $1.50, students, Golden age (60 to 74 years of age) and handicaps .75¢ and free rides for passengers 75 years of age or older or 6 years of age and younger.  The fare includes a one-way transfer to ride the bus.
